Yeah it'll be the mites, they suck their blood and I've noticed in the past when mine had them bad that they stopped growing. Judging by the piccie it looks like the one on the right has been chewing himself too where the two whorls meet (but it's a small pic so hard to tell), which is a sign of mites (been there - dont feel bad - mites are very common). It could be that they have been growing, but chewing off their new growth as it grows. One of my suturalis still does this despite being mite free for months. I think they get into the habit of it sometimes. They will start growing again - get the hypoapsis mites (only way to be totally rid of mites - you may think you've got rid of them without the hypoapsis, but they'll be inside them still), and I bet you that there'll be an improvement

thanks alot iv seemed to get rid of the mites and now im using spagnum moss instead of soil there has been no mites seen on them so i think there gone
monty(the one on the right)has been chewing on his shell and im a bit worried what shall i do? iv put him in a tank on his own will it upset him? shall i just leave him whith the others? how can i stop him from chewing his shell?
when i first got my 4 fulicas they used to chew on montys shell but they have stoped now because i think there a bit scared of monty now because hes the biggest lol
thanks again xxxx

They wont be gone, believe me, they're still inside them - they can stay inside them for a long time without being seen in the substrate - that's why so many of us who've bare tanked and quarantined have still had mites come back as soon as they're back on the substrate. The only way to get rid of them completely is to get the hypoapsis - otherwise they're just dormant inside them, still sucking their blood and affecting their size/health You might be able to keep them under some sort of control by changing the substrate, but you wont get rid of them that way. If he's still chewing his shell, there's a good chance hes still being irritated by them, or if it's not that - it's because it's become habit - he might grow out of it, he might not (a couple of mine still chew their shells). No point seperating him unless they're doing it to him too, as if he's got mites still, they will have too. The change in substrate has probably knocked back the population of mites, and that's why you're not seeing them yet - give it a few days, and they'll be back - they're a pain in the arse to get rid of lol.

I wonder why my reticulatas aren`t growing ? I´ve got 5 of those and only one has grown well. Those are nearly 9 months old and the size difference is HUGE...the big one over 9cm and others between 4-6cm ! Reticulatas are now in a storage box (31L) and other conditions are just like with my fulicas....24 degrees and about 80% humidity. Those are all eating well and lively, and there´s no bugs. Everything seems to be ok, but they aren´t just growing...except the one.

i have 2 fulicas, on one of them you can see where new shell has grown (alot of new shell) and it is quite big. But my other one is still small and hasn't grown a single little bit since i got them 6 months ago. They are both 11 months old. Any ideas why?
