1/2" a month is a good growth rate, I wouldn't think they will grow much larger than 5" that is quite big for fulicas. I wouldn't keep them in anything smaller than about 18" x 10" x 10"

I think the better question would be :what is the largest tank you can afford? ;D

well ive measured the tank they are in & it is 18 x 10 x 10 BUT it isnt square - i am on the look out for a new tank at what stage can i put new babies back in with there parents & is there a problem with doing this (cross breading) NOT that i am planning on keeping all the eggs anyway but 2 small tanks will be taking up as much room as ONE better size tank where i can actually put some foliage & stuff in it THANKS

I tend to keep baby snails separate from the parents simply because it is easier to see how much food they are eating. When they are older if you keep them together then they will most definitely cross breed. Val
