So is the liquid, their blood kind of thing?? they definately feel pain cos they retract quick enough if their healthy. Would cutting a snails foot area hurt it? Yeah I know it sounds like a silly question and no Im not gonna try it The foot is mostly muscle?? Yeah it is a silly question thinking about it.....derrrr

How on earth would you get the chance to cut the tail off of a snail anyway...surely they would fold awa in their shell before you got too far.

Hi Anjie I meant like a really sick snail that was too far gone to care what was happening....cant do anything to a healthy snail they re inside before you get near them Was just an idea anyway, sort of last resourt sort of thing. Paul, that is the pic with the dead piece of tail still attached. Its the white area of the tail. When I first got him from Anjie that area was hard to the touch and the same colour as the rest of his skin. Why exactly this happened I dont know. Gail

Haemocyanin isn't red, it is iron that gives Haemoglobin it's colour. So Haemocyanin is just as valid for blood but perhaps not as efficient or specialised as Haemoglobin-based blood which is particularly good at its job.

So what your saying is.....they do have blood as we do, its just not red? Not the same as our blood but basically doing the same job. I always thought they must have some kind of thing doing the same job. Hmm didnt put that very well Gail
