I saw one of my snails doing something the other day and it got me thinking...
It pulled its muscles on its foot so it squeezed and produced what could be describe as blisters. The foot has a series of what I assume are the equivalent of tendons that allow it to move. It's a little like what happens when you squeeze a teabag with a string. The string pulls and distorts the teabag and makes it bulge. I've looked today with my magnifying glass and the lines are distinct.
I'm just wondering if that is what the blistering is. If I can catch it quick enough again, I'll try and get a picture.

yes most of my snails do it, including my reti, dimi's and smithii, i have even seen fulica do it, it's nothing to worry about but it might be interesting to find out how and why they do it :-)

Well, if it what I witnessed, it is muscle retraction. Mine did it when they were upside down, I suspected they were trying to find something to grip on to.

it almost looks like a water bed or something when you press on one end and it ripples all over?

if you squeeze your hand at the sides and bend it up halfway so it wrinkles up, that's what it looks like lol.

You're right, and I've changed the now obsolete Achatina dimidiata to immaculata and what was immaculata to zebra.

Eh? Immaculata are zebras? I'm going to have to start renaming them as colours or appearance. Fulica - brown, Dimi - orange, tigers - stripey, retics - scratched, margies - nobbly end... I think Paul was on about the member titles, that appear beneath everyone's username... I dont think Achatina immaculata are Achatina zebra, as zebra give birth to live young as well as lay eggs.
