When one of my snails (a year and a half old fulica) retracts there's a ring of what looks like fat left sticking out. When she's fully out he looks normal, is he overweight or could it be something to do with carrying eggs? I'm fairly sure she mated recently. She seems ok and healthy, I just wondered what caused this.
Just to clarify I know that sometimes snails don't fully retract and they stick out of their shells a bit when they're sleeping, but this is like a rubber ring around the lip of the shell.

It seems like a swollen mantle. Maybe she's holding eggs which makes her bloated? How much does the mantle stick over the lip of the shell?

Its sticking out about 1cm but when she's fully out you can't see anything abnormal. I'll try to get some pics if you think it might be a problem.

Some pics would be useful. It depends, I wouldn't think it would be a problem, as long as she's eating fine and is acting normal. Could you also get some pics of her mantle from underneath please? That way we can see if there are eggs there.

Yes theres definitely eggs there! Quite a few by the looks of it, it just looked strange when I first noticed it but I've been keeping a close eye on her and I think it must just be because of the eggs. How exciting, my first GAL eggs!
