Just wondering how those of you with poorly two-tones (or other immac variants) affected by this poor growth and retraction problem were fairing? Anyone else continuing to have problems? Or did you lose your snail(s)? Gary and Sally were taking a step for the better earlier in the year, but over the last few weeks have returned to their retracting business, and I've had to move them out of the immac tank today and into their own smaller place, to keep an eye on them. Even during their growing period, they only gained a very small amount of new growth, and almost nothing to their total size. I'm having to wake them up just to get them to come out and stay out long enough to eat - which is becoming a very rare occurence. But this isn't a continuation of the "what can I do" theme the other thread was on. I know I've done all I can, and we've had to warn the kids that we dont think they'll make it. What I wanted to know is how the other snails mentionned in the thread on the problems board are getting on. Any happy outcomes? Here's pics of the two fusspots...if you look closely, you can see the new blisters on Gary's "skirts" - whereas before he was blistering up on the underside of his foot when handled, he now has permanent blisters on the outside - no idea if they're connected. You can also see how grey they look at times (although the camera gives them more colour than they actually have). Sally (left), Gary (right) Sally Gary What looks like yellow new growth on Sally is in fact all she's grown since earlier this year - and it has never changed to normal colour. All new growth on either of them has been chalky solid shell in tiny lines, not the smooth softer new growth on all our other healthy snails. They are still very small - Gary is about 4cm (shell size) and Sally about 2.5cm. Considering we've nearly had them a year, I think it's realistic to assume now that they're not going to grow. Anyhoo, hope that there have been some happy endings, and sorry to drag it up if there hasn't

it may be the cold weather affecting them again, if you remember everyone had problems last winter, then as spring came things started to improve.
I only have one left he is currently about 6cm
The others were 3cm and died for no apparent reason a mouple of months back, they were never so good.

It's not the temp, room and tank temp is no different to during summer.

When I got my two-tones they didn't seem to grow for ages then it was like it happened over night I just looked in the tank one day and was like bloody hell when did that happen.I did have three but lost one when it was young if my two-tones ever get jiggy I could maybe try and hatch you some eggs Lisa If you like?

Ta Loops, that'd be really kind of you - if G + S leave us, I may take you up on that. The way things are looking today, I'm fairly sure Sally will be leaving us in the very near future. She's retracted very far back, and initially wasn't moving when I gently touched her, but she popped out after half an hour, and has now moved but gone back in again.

Well, seems like I was right. Just found Gary and Sally both retracted so far back in I could hardly see them. Managed to prod them a little bit to see if they moved, their airholes are opening - but they've not eaten since I moved them out of the big tank, and being on a heat mat hasn't helped, so I think they're going to die. It's really weird, they were doing so well - not much growth (well, none) but really active, and now - pfft - at death's door

Oh no! Lisa you did so much better than I did with their brother Justin, so remember that. You've given them everything they've needed - I can only think it must be genetic.

I also think this problem is genetic, I have a fulica who is bahving exactly the same, it hasn't grown hardly at all, is always in its shell, hardly seems to eat anything, believe me I have tried everything I can think of and there has been no change at all!! The other fulica who shares the tank is getting really big.

Thanks for the messages. Sally and Gary are still alive, well they were this morning, I'm going to check on them in a mo. They are only coming out if I prod them (very far back retracted otherwise), but they're not eating or moving any more - and they only poke their heads out then go back in. Neither look right colour wise, they're now red and grey - almost as if they'd dried up - and their bodies are rubbery, but they're not dead - just not right at all I dont know whether it would be better to end it for them. Although the kids are already devastated and would be gutted if I had to help them along. I just dont want them to starve to death over a long time, like I know other folks snails have I dont know what to do. I'm going to check on them now, but after that - I'm not going to try and wake them any more, as it's obviously not what they want

I think you should do what you feel you need to do,(just been and told Bart and Lisa to get on with it so you can have some babies am not sure if they were listening though).

We found Gary and Sally dead this morning. My two eldest (Gary and Sally were theirs) are gutted - especially so considering it is their birthdays this weekend (Sophie yesterday, Emma today). Sophie is especially upset, as she's never been a huge snail fan (scared of the bigger ones), but Sally was her baby.

Thanks Loops. It's all put a bit of a dampener on the party moods today - but I'm going to see if I can resurrect those smiles with the promise of sweets and cake. Usually works
