I'm not really sure that vets would know what to do with a snail or be able to do anything with a snail.

Thanks for your answer, is that it thought that they existed vets for snails, because there are many people that is have snails for pets.

You would think there would be a vet for snails but to be honest we that keep them are unsure of what to do when there are problems and I don't think that the vets would really be able to do anything.

Yes, a person dedicated to the heliciculture is more trustworthy as far as the medication.

to be honest most owners learn from experience how to treat their snails, most people on here will help you if you have a problem.

Im the past I have obtained advise regarding my tortoise from the keepers at Chester Zoo. My vet was at a loss with what to do for them, and made the suggestion. The keepers were more than happy to help, unfortunately I lost both of them, but cannot fault the keepers enthusiasm, effort and the concern they showed.
May be another source of help and advise if you have a major problem with more exotic animals.

My local vets are great, I've not needed to take a snail to them but was recenltly given a veterinary paper on them by one of the vets talking all about veterinary treatment for GALS, even surgery! I can't for the life of me think where I put it but will do my best to try and get her to e-mail it to me if poss.

What disease could a snail have, that needs surgery? I could think, that they could help with meds for snails (for injuries or infektions - but never have seen an infection in my snails). Mostly the snails only need perfect conditions in their tank and usually all the problems are solved, when we keep them in optimal conditions. I don´t think, a vet could do anything, if a snail isn´t growing optimal (the only "problem" I do sometimes have with young snails, but imo this are usually genetic-problems, we cannot treat at all). Kind regards, Gabi
