It Dosent Have It On PetSnails Food List But I Dont See Why It Would Be Bad For Them Anyone Else Got Any Ideas ? I Think I Fed It To My Snails Ages Ago Like Last Year When We Ran Out Of Sweet Potato And They All Were Fine

Yes peppers are fine for snails, they love them. Was it the fulica that died?

I am sorry to tell you that a great many of the fulica which people are keeping are just dying for apparently no reason. I had 3 fulica and I lost all of them, they just retracted one day and then died, it is thought to be caused by too much inbreeding!! The pics brought a lump to my throat, very very touching!!!

Sorry i did say she went a little over the top inbreeding is going to get worse as so many people keep eggs and so many snails are going to die from it they were alive one day when 16 hours later dead dave.

The inbreeding question remains debateable, more likely a virus. A shame none the less, theres not a huge amount of exact information on what may cause this sort of problem in fulica at the moment, hopefully that will change soon enough.

Im having real problems with my fulica too. I dont inbreed but the snails I buy to pair with the ones ive hatched may be inbred! Anyway the problems are quite stunted growth most of my recent fulica havent grown larger than 7cm! Also they dont seem to be living much longer than a year and a half. Is anyone esle seeing this?

WTF! Thats what my Snails looked like when 1 of them died! They went deeper into the shell and such. But what happened to mine was I forgot to change the food alot when cleaning them! It was a bad habit.

I've lost 3 small fulica for no apparent reason and all were young. I don't know exactly how old they were but I don't think it was over 2 years old.
I also lost my 4 two-tones - again for no obvious reason. I wondered if it was a virus but they died months apart not all at the same time. Are there viruses that would do that? I did lose 2 in the same day when both were fine the day before but all the other snails were fine, I then lost the other 2 months later also in the same day but again everyone else in the tank was fine. I have now lost a margie from the same tub, but once again it's months later. Should I be worried or is it just some weird "thing"? As before everyone else seems fine, they're eating and active but the others were exactly the same before they died, I saw them moving around one night then found their empty shells the next day.
The fulica I lost were in a different tub (and were also still in their shells when I found them, seems my other tub likes meat more than the fulica!) and it's only two tubs *touch wood* that I've lost snails from. If it was a virus it would have been passed to the other 4 tanks wouldn't it?

Awww Sian - sorry to hear about your bad luck. This fulica illness seems to be doing the rounds at the moment - I lost several snails to it, now only have 6 fulica - some of them are still battling - although they seem to be stable as they've not got worse in a couple of months. I know a few people who've lost lots of snails to this problem - the retracting and orange goo - it seems restricted to achatinas rather than archachatinas - so maybe the margie was a different cause - and just bad timing/co-incidence?
Give us a shout if you want a natter (((hug)))

Thanks. I hope it is just co-incidence. I don't remember having the orange goo but I know I've had the retracting before, the majority of the time it was with fulica. This time though they've just died. No visible symptoms, just fine one day gone the next.

I've lost another fulica. Only 3 from the 6 "teen" ones I was sent are left now Everyone else in the tub is still fine. There's 2 adult fulica (was 4 but I moved the two pet shop ones into the other tub as they're that heavy the big tub was falling off the shelf - no joke!) 3 adult immacs and then the remaining younger 1. The tub the fatties went into has the 2 fulica I hatched from a batch Willow and Kaiya laid years ago, the 2 other "teen" ones and Carson my oldest iredalei and they're also still fine. All is fine in the other tank - except my tiger babies are expanding by the day and are gonna burst outta the tub soon rofl. But as I said it was months between the other snails dying so I'm still worrying for now. *Edited to change the numbers after I double checked the tub*
