hello can anyone shed some light on poor brians swelling a friend has bought her snail over today as she has noticed he has a ballon like swelling near his mouth? i have had a good look and taken sone photos to see if anyone else can help to me it looks like is sex organs? but im not sure the photos are not great as i only have my web cam set up but any info on what it could be, how to treat it and how to prevent it im sure brian will be very greatful

Yes,it is a bit difficult to see,they could be the sex-organs,but on the first pic they seem to be coming out of his mouth,rather than behind the tentacle where it should be.

It is difficult to see in the pics, can you describe where the swelling is? If it is at the side of his head then it is his sex organ sticking out and this is quite normal.

The swelling seems to be coming from the mouth area, rather then the side of the neck.

looking at the poor chap (brian) today the swelling was from mis mouth more than his neck but the swelling was not fluid filled more trapped air? anyway i know this little snail ok big snail has been looked after so well but he did feel a little light and when he retracted he went into his shell quiet far so i dont think it is good news im soooo sorry sezz xx but you did everything correct life is crule some times

ok now for the nasty question how do you humianly put a snail to sleep? i know its not nice and rarly talked about but a need to know question

Hi Pink spider, I'm really sorry to hear you've reached the end of the road with your snail. Luckily I've never had to PTS a snail but can advise NOT to put the snail in the freezer as often suggested. This causes considerable pain. The only really humane way would be to squash him, although I appreciate this is a not too pleasent option.

Thxs all that have replied to this problem, not a great way to join, but needed to know the answers all the same, Pinkspider has helped us greatly but I'm not sure I can squash him so is there another way pls.

the snail is not mine she belongs to a 10 year old little girl who loves him to bits seems so unfair

If you put him somewhere comfortable but not heated he will probably go into his shell and quietly die anyway. There is no way he can survive this. Val
