Hello everyone,
We had 3 snails, fulica i believe, that were around a year and a bit old. Two of them have recently died, one went up into his shell and never came out again, whilst the other ones eyes swelled up really bad before he died. I have no idea why this happened and obviously feel awful about it. One is still alive, but acting very strangely. He hasn't ate anything in about two weeks, neither food nor cuttlefish. I have tried different foods, hand feeding, placing on the food, grinding up the cuttlefish but nothing. He stills moves around his tank and is active, particularly after a spray/bath. He seems to be producing loads of mucus too. I was really worried about him last night as he seemed to have a very large protrusion which was still there this morning. When I got home this afternoon, he had moved and left this big blob of cream mucus. I tried to take a pic but its not showing up well. Hes been moving around this afternoon, still not eating, but I am a bit concerned as to what this is. If anyone has any suggestions on any aspect of this post please advise! I don't want to lose another. By the way, is it possible that he may be mourning for the other two? And as he is on his own will he get lonely? (apologies if this is posted in the wrong area.) Thank you.

I don't think anyone really knows whether a snail gets lonely or not but they definitely do become more active in a group rather than on their own, they seem to be quite social creatures. Regarding your one remaining snail, well he doesn't sound too good producing all that mucus, all you can do really is what you have already been doing, just observing him and see what transpires. Really hope he pulls through for you.

Hi, Thank you all for your replies. Still not much improvement, keeps moving around but loads of mucus and not eating yet. He is looking really small, it's really sad. I am keeping him as comfortable as I can, putting in new delicious food and what not, but I think I am going to step back and stop handling as much as I am guessing it is the last thing he wants if he's feeling poorly. See how he is after a couple of days I guess, will keep you informed of his progress. Fingers crossed.
I have read the swelling post, and although quite similar in colour, Brians swelling looks a bit more severe than Charlies was, and is not quite in the same place. But thank you, and I am sorry about Brians condition.
Thank you all again, KT
