Hi all, The way I am keeping my tiger babies seems to work so well that I thought I would pass it on. I have lined the bottom of their tank with a piece of capillary matting which will hold quite a lot of moisture, and then put a large handful of sphagnum moss in one corner for them to burrow into. When I want to get them out or check on them I just have to lift up the moss and there they are - snoozing underneath it!!! Cleaning it is easy, just rinse the piece of matting under the tap. The heat pad at the back keeps the moss nice and warm. here is a pic.

Do you want me to sit in the corner and rust, or just fall apart where I'm standing?

It looks a cracking idea for babies! I've moved mine into a much smaller tub so they're easier to locate. I've noticed there much more active than they were. One of the reasons I think it is a great idea, aside from being able to find them easily is that tanks full of babies are harder to keep clean. When a large snail poos it's easy to spot and remove. Smaller ones just litter the soil all over so you find yourself changing it more regularly.

OMG Val, that looks great. Where do you get the capillary matting stuff from? And you even peel the cucumber for them lol, i never do because some of my snails love the skin and some love the insides, i've noticed my tiger babies don't eat the skin though. You spoil 'em lol.

You peel the cucumber?! Your mad! Completely bananas! You spoil them to much. If mine wanted no peel they'll just have to flippin' well eat around it instead. lol. I'm to strict aren't I?

Anjie..............capillary matting you can get at ANY good garden centre they sell it by the foot (or metre), I have the benches in the greenhouse lined with it so I had plenty of offcuts ;D

Oh it isn't expensive, any garden centre will have it. How did you hatch your babies? Did you remove them from the tank?

I don't always peel it - only if I haven't got time to scrub it

Ok, I couldn't find any capillary matting so Im using coco liner instead and they seem to like it.

coco liner should do just as well, it's made from coir so actually it is more natural than capillary matting.................why didn't I think of that!!!!!!!!!!
