Hey all, I managed to get a good deal on some heat mats (2 x 23" x 6" ones for £10! ;D ) But....... there's no plugs on them lol. I can easily add one, but does anyone know what fuse should be in them? Cheers

Is the brand, and model number on the actual heat mat? You could find the company that made them online and email to ask

There's a company on one, and the other has a VERY faded label but I've finally been able to see that it says 3 amp fuse required lol.
I'll have a look and see if I can find a website or anything for the other one.
It says Ultratherm LTD on it.
There's a load of brown tape on them.. is that safe? I might try and take it off.
Edit: Found the site and they have a contact bit so will send an email. I did a search about the fuse though and found a forum that said no more than a 3 amp should be used in most heat mats. And something about the 3 amp trips out at the first sign of something or other.. gawd my memory is getting worse lol I only read it just now!!
Anyway, should I take the brown tape off? And what do you guys think is the safest set up for when I use them? I'll be using them on the storage box tanks, which are plastic of course and I'll be putting them on the back of them, what else can/should I do to make it safe?

The brown tape doesn't have to come off(for safety)but if theres loads of it then try get as much off it as you can.Don't know of any more safety issues really other then check if they are working properly......

Well the tape is only top and bottom as it was obviously stuck to a tank, but I read somewhere online it says put it on the clear edges of the mat, which not all of this is. It's pretty well stuck though but I'll see what I can do.
I put a plug on the one that said what fuse it was, and it didn't blow up when I plugged it in lol so that's a good start. I could feel it getting warm so I've turned it off again now.
