Well, storage boxes that can be used as tanks. Do it All (Focus), £6.99, and 10l bigger than my other biggest one (also from there, and very similar design - so probably the next size up). The only difference other than size between my big one and these is that the lid attaches on differently, there's no snap over clips - it just clicks on. But it's bigger and quite a bit clearer. My old one cost £7.99 too, so technically it's £1 cheaper for a bigger tank *lol* Piccies of nearly identical old one: Old tank on left, compared to hinged lid one (middle) and Tommy tank (right - although it's deceptive, as you could fit two Tommy tanks into one of the other two on the picture!): New one (well one of them - cos I got two hence there being another lid leaning on it): I'll try and get comparison shots when I set them up tonight. If I set them up tonight *lol* Anyhoo, just thought those who use these might want to know - my old one currently houses Boycie and Marlene, so it's big enough for a pair old big 'uns. Even better for small groups of fulicas though.

Oh sorry - there is one small difference, the old one has wheels, and this one doesn't.

Oooh I'll have to take some piccies, and hope they dont come out with "666" on their heads ;D Two new tanks now set up, bare though, as am playing ultra cautious about Gary's crawlies, so all have new moss, all microwaved (moss, not snails), and nothing in there other than their plate of food. I doubt it'll reoccur as I only ever saw one on him at a time - so he wasn't riddled. Probably me being super-mothering *lol* Yes I know, sticking on muslin (all I could get on our market, no chiffon!) over their ventilation holes with parcel tape isn't this season's new look...

Lisa, I used them for my Fulicas as I can't have "posh" tanks everywhere in the house. The storage boxes stay in the bathroom at the mo. I bought them not in the DIY shop, but in one of those poundland pretty cheap stores, I am sure that store is everywhere in the country. You can get 3 or £9.99. The same as yours. I checked Wilkos before Christmas, they are the same and then they went on sale in Jan and it's even cheaper. Just thought I tell you.

I have never thought about getting storage boxes, they sound good so I might give them a try. Cheap and not as heavy as glass tanks, they have their good points. I have one of those "posh" glass tanks lol. Well, it's my only tank, apart from the small baby snail one. I'm going to make a frame for it and thinking about putting lighting there. There is one problem... It's so big and heavy that getting it up and the down the stairs is a mission lol.

Drill them yes. I put some of that cm square paper on there first, then you have certain points to drill on, every cm. That way it looks neat and tidy. I managed to drill out about 420 holes in one lid that way and it didn't take too long. Be sure to make them big enough to enable sufficient ventilation, but small enough if you are planning on keeping babies in there. We don't want snails on the lose lol!

420? Or was it 520...or something like that... Well anyway, they were small holes so babies didn't escape, so I had to drill lots of them to let in enough air.

Dad drilled mine for me. He did big holes 2- 2&1/2" across in all the lids. It was easier that way as the lids on mine are thinner than the rest of them (And it took less time lol) To stop the snails escaping I just put some mesh on the inside and then chiffon on the outside. Felix - We have one of them Poundlands but it's a sod to get too lol. I got mine from a cheapy shop anyway, obviously weren't as cheap as there but were still good lol. They look good Lisa ;D I'll have to have a look next time I goto Focus and see if they're bigger than mine. I have some muslin for backup and it's good I just bought the chiffon first lol. I think the difference is with chiffon you can't see any holes and it's waterproof. So not much diff lol. And don't worry bout the tape, I used double sided underneath, then duct tape over the top lol.

Aww Felix you had to ruin my bargain hunter mode! But then again it would cost me more than the difference would be, just to get to one of those other places. So I'm pleased anyway *lol* As I said, I left them bare apart from the moss and their food dish/teaplate thingie. Piccies so you can guage the space - my fulicas and Monty the retic, Monty's about 10cm, Sam's 9cm, Cooper's not much smaller at about 8-ish cm. Layla's on the side (none of them noticed she'd joined them - didn't even say hello!): And a really naff piccie of the dimis/baby margies tank - the flash didn't work as well as it seemed to show on the camera, so I had to fiddle with it on Photoshop, and you still can hardly see the snails! They're ranging from 2cm-4cm shell length. My holes are in the ends - obviously you can see where the muslin is - but there's only 15 holes in each side, but that's plenty enough. 520?! How small a drill bit was it?

So I'm pleased anyway *lol* Oops, did not mean to. Well think of a good way, when you increase you snailies family, which I think you will in *cough* a short time, then you probably need to get some more tanks, there you go, problems solved. You can go there and get some "bargain ones" ;D PS I went to DIY Focus store first and bought some, but then I looked out for more when I go shopping and just buy the boxes WITHOUT A REASON. Come home and make an excuse for myself that I can have more snailies since I have got some empty plastic storage boxes sitting around in the house. See...that's how you build you snailies family up.

Rofl. You'll have another margie if my eggs hatch Lisa So that's one off the list Mwahahaha Now what else can you add... hmmm I think a few more ebay fulica or lovely fulica babies from Sarah! ;D (From Rex actually but yeah Sarah has to send them lol) *Evil cackle* Buy more buy more lol Is that the moss from Focus? I knew I shoulda got the green!! Grrr. I saw it there and thought, nah I'll have the normal I don't like the way it's all in strands, but I do like how nice it looks in green lol. I bought some forest moss (which is green) to try for when I finally finish the sphagnum from Focus, it's lovely. Rofl @ Felix. You're my kind of shopper lol *Mutters on*

Yeah it's the green stuff but I think it's all they had there anyway, never seen any others.
Hmm more fulica, it's possible I guess, but I'd prefer something different. Mind you, I've got more in the pipeline so to speak. But I've got tanks for them PMSL.
I've been given permission by the hubby - he says I can have as many snails as I want (within reason of course!), as long as I dont get any more rats, dogs, or kids. Now the last one I can promise for definite!
