I'm setting up a tank for Sherman and any companion we find for him and I'd like some inspiration in the way of pics/descriptions of your margie setups.
My idea is maybe to use capilliary matting, a large pyrex bowl with sphagnum in for digging/sleeping/laying and the rest I need inspiration for.
Some ideas I've had:
Obviously a water bowl Maybe some fake plants Maybe a resin branch (bogwood goes mouldy) for climbing
I basically want a Margie Mansion ;D So can I please see some of your setups?

It's for margies and dimis but here ya go lol And how it is now: Their plant pot is done this way as it gives a bit more space but -all- of them can still fit in it lol (I've seen it, it's hella funny!!) It's kept upright and in place by the plant being weaved in and out of the holes and then the suction cup for it is stuck to the back (The duct tape is there to make sure the glue has enough time to dry lol) It just slides out of the suction cup when I need to clean it ;D The flat bowl is their "pool" but they don't use it a lot. My margies seem to be too lazy to "swim" lol they do go in it sometimes, and it's handy for if theres too much food for the other bowl. It's sphagnum moss in the egg tub, forest moss everywhere else, and the long thin bits are bamboo leaves. I bought them dried off ebay, and they go a lovely green when wet but don't go soggy or anything. (They're brown in the pic 'cause they've dried out again. They dry out quicker than the moss and matting)

;D No probs. Hmm.. maybe I should add another plant lol Or a smaller "pool" *Thinking mode now!* I don't like how pics make it look too small >=/ Freddie can stretch out all the way easily on all the sides! Not that he bothers to do that much rofl. He seems to prefer moving around on the floor rather than the sides. I'd love to put some wood in though like you mentioned. I keep looking at those flexi branch things. There's also a jungle gym thing exo terra or zoo med have brought out. Made of wood with lots of moss and stuff on. I emailed them about it to ask if it would go mouldy being sprayed everyday, but they haven't replied It is pretty expensive though so maybe it's good they haven't replied rofl.

Yeah - I was thinking along the lines of ones made for fish tanks out of resin, purely because of the mould aspect. Lisa tried bogwood and it was cack (it is in fish tanks too but that's another story *lol*). If I find anything, I'll let you know and vice versa? ;D Thanks again - this tank's going to be fab with this inspiration you've given me!

Lol. I've spoken to people who've said bogwood was fine in their fish tank, then others that said it wasn't. Is strange lol. We have pieces of moapani (sp?) wood, no idea what they would be like, it would mean depriving my newts of it anyway lol Yep, will let you know if I see anything ;D Here's the link for the jungle thing I was on about in case anyone was interested. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7744785639 There was another size too but they haven't listed it yet. It's on page 24 of the zoo med catalogue, it says there's 3 sizes. www.zoomed.com/html/ZM_catalog.pdfI've also just seen they've added that it's grapevine wood, so will look that up and see what it says. P.S don't make it too good, or I'll have to steal the idea and make mine the same Oh wait it's Lisa that does that isn't it, even though her tanks don't look like anyone elses Rofl.

OOh i want a flexi branch but they are nearly £10 in my local reptile shop and they dont look very thick and sturdy was thinking more for iredalei than magies. Do margies really climb-mine dont seem to they rarely go on the sides of the tank and never been on the top. might just be that they dont have the opportunity cos i dont have any branches.
Can branches be gathered from outside to be used?? Is it safe-and how wolod you go about cleaning them? just thinking because ive had stuff go mouldy before but if its free and easy to get hold of i.e taken from the garden, its not a big deal if it goes rotten!

margies do like a pool much bigger then Sians though, no offence Sian mine have a harrybo box those ones you get lots of sweets in about 20cm x 20cm and about 3 inches deep for their pool and they love it! they also have a slightly bigger pot with soil in for laying and burrowing :-)

The flat bowl is their "pool" but they don't use it a lot. My margies seem to be too lazy to "swim" Why would I take any? lol They don't use it enough to waste space with a bigger one. Having one your size would still only fit Freddie in it anyway, so it doesn't help a lot lol (Me that is, I know not everyones are non water loving gits like mine rofl) My egg tub fits Freddie and Izrina in though, so that's ok lol Ian, Brians margies climb a lot I think. He made his tank taller for them and he has a huge branch in it. My Elvira climbs a bit, but the other two don't bother lol

Well obviously if there's more than one and they all like the water it would be easier to have a bigger bowl lol. I don't know if snail rugby would catch on rofl.

Ah see im getting some new baby margies soon hopefully so might try then in a tank with lots to climb and see how they get on! Ive got a pool in with the adults, its more to keep uphumidity rather than for them to swim, one of them seems to go in there every so often but shes not in there for long generally just passing. I wasnt sure about the depth they could handle so its about and inch and a half filled with stones on the bottom and about and inch of water above the pebbles. might go depeer though if its safe-my margies are big adults about 15cm so how deep do you think they would like?

I dont use a pool at all for mine, they bury too much in their moss, that they tip their food dish over all the time *lol*
I can picture it now, me being on standby with the Vileda Supermop...

well if you woyuld like to know how deep you can have it then turn your margie on it's side so that the air hole is at the top, then measure from the bottom of the shell to beneath the air hole and what ever the measurement is is how deep you can have it, because when margies are in a deep pool, they dive in and hold their breath and as soon as thye need to breath they tilt their shells to the side and the air hole emerges above the water and they breath :-) I'll get a diagram to show more clearly what i mean...

there's not much to it. I am going to do a step-by-step guide when I build they next one and put it on the DIY section of the website. Not sure when I am doing it but it's definately on the 'To-Do' list

LOL. ;D When I put a water dish on my margies tank, they burrowed themselves under it, and the water just come down to the compost looool. But I don´t doubt that they love small water pools.
