Downloading / Installing
Debian:
As root type:
apt-get install xchat
SuSE:
As root type:
yast2 -i xchat
RedHat, Mandrake and other RPM distros:
Download your RPM:
www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=xchat&submit=Search
Then as root do:
rpm -i /path/packagename.rpm
where path and packagename are replaced by your path and RPM name.
Installing from source:
Obtain from:
www.softpedia.com/progDownload/XChat-Download-2742.html
As root do:
tar -zxf package.tar.gz
or
tar -jxf package.tar.bz2
where "package" is replaced by your downloaded file name.
Then cd into the directory and do:
./configure
make
make install
Running it
To run it either type:
xchat
from a terminal or mini-commander or select it from your menus.
Configuration
The following 2 screens will be enough to show you how I have it set.
Choose your own Nicknames:
