Hello, I am Kat and don't have any snails right now - I really want some and am still at the researching stage. Currently I have 2 dogs, 4 rats, 1 goldfish and artemia. Great site here btw! Snails are one of my fave animals, I always have liked them - I used to keep apple snails which I know are completely different but I just think they are soo pretty and cute, usually people think I am crazy when I say that but I am sure you guys have cute snails too I am bit confused at the substrate side of things (being a bit environmental and vegan obsessed makes me err at the peat) but I am sure I will figure something out after reading on here and finding out more. Kat xx

hi Kat.
welcome ;D
you don't have to use peat, you can use compost or coir (coconut fibres) or moss or capillary matting
kind regards

Hi Kat, Welcome to the forum. if you like snails then you sure are in the right place!! Yes like Mike said there are lots of options for substrate, personally I like the coir best as it is sterile so don't have to worry about tiny bugs, but capillary matting and some moss works better for little baby snails as you don't have to hunt for them in the substrate.
