You know the advert banner on top on the page, just below the PS logo. How can I get rid of it in between posts in the thread? The advert is there after the first post and as some of them are animated, it's pretty annoying while reading posts. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them please? My computer is set as no pop up etc.
I hope you know what I mean. Or is it just me or others can see this too?

I don't know how to get rid of it but I know the banner you're on about so you're not going crazy.

It looks like a change to proboards advertising, as its a recent addition to another board I use too. Its not something which can be affected by popup blockers or similar unfortunatly, its a free forum so they need to make the revenue through advertising.

Okay, thanks. It's annoying when I read the first post and they just keep on moving when it's animated advert. I thought I have blocked the advert somehow. It's not too bad when it just stays right at the top, not in between posts in thread. edit: Tig, I have IE, can't stand firefox at all. ;D

It is a change to the proboards advertising. There is mass uproar about it and they're thinking of not continuing when they end their test on the 16th April. Hopefully they'll make it optional but we'll have to see.
I've also asked some questions about ad-free, to see if robots count toward the quota. If they do, it's not worth it. I also want to know if it can be ad-free for members only (which would solve the robot problem), and whether quota could be spent on specific people, ie. anyone who wants to pay a few quid a year for their account to be ad-free. I'm not saying that's the route we're going down, but it's nice to know what options we have.
Currently for the hits this forum gets we're talking £220-270 per year to remove them completely and that isn't counting robot traffic. I'm trying to get figures for that now. I could host a new forum myself for a lot cheaper. But could everyone put up with a migration?

I can't find out a robot count because on inspection they're isn't anything in this forum that robots actually reliably download, that I have logs for.

A migration might be healthy if you tied it in with a few other things? I really think a society sign up would be nice, like the psg run a group there are enough people (from all over the world as we have seen here) to make a group plausible? More than just the website and just a forum, but a physical database of members, and with a little effort at very least a quaterly news letter. Everyone likes recieving post, I'd be happy to put a large amount of the financial backing toward it as long as people were genuinely interested. Could tie a breeders registration into that via member numbers (like what was discussed a while back) so you can add your member number to the snails you send out (allowing people to look up where they got thier snails from). Alot which could be done to better stand the hobby as a hobby rather than some weird fanatical interest in boring old snails And if a forum migration happened at the same time, we could tidy up the posts, keep the colours idea and start on a new foot with the current "rethinking" of what the forum is for and what it is trying to achieve?

It sounds like an amazing idea, i liked the sound of a proper formal database when it was first mentioned. So it would be sort of a breeders registration prgramme. I would love to be able to track my snails and also give my buyers a chance to knnow more about their new snail.

Em - all that sounds great - if the forum migration could incorporate your ideas it would be excellent - I really think the breeding thread a while back threw up some really interesting action points - particulary the breeder registration - not breeding at the mo but would like to be able know exactly where my stock comes from if I do so in the future. The society sign up would be a good move also - what do you envisage the members contributing to this ie would it be very formal research or also observational based - thinking about participation etc/
