Ok, You heard me mention the directory idea. It is not on the net yet but so far the directory is set up and people can suggest links. I am just writing some software to allow certain members to review the links and place them in the directory wherever they think it is appropriate. And to add links themselves using the same system. I say certain members because I am looking for people who...:
..would like to do the job.
..have time to keep on top of new links and who would like to help populate the directory with loads of quality links. I'd like to make it as definitive and as useful as possible, otherwise all the code is pointless. Any visitor will be able to suggest links but I want moderators assessing the submissions and that takes a little longer. You could be emailed when new ones are waiting if you like.
..have an aptitude for assessing websites; what categories they would pertain to and how relevant they are.
..can write clear, accurate and concise but informative descriptions.
..who can assess if a link is a single relevant page on a non-relevant website, if the link is part of a site already listed, if the link is a section or a whole website and things like that. There will be tools to help you assess this but I'm looking for people who understand what the constituent parts of a URL are.
..who can score the usefulness of the links in a dispassionate way. A link may be 100% relevant to snails and the categories it is going in but the info itself is limited.
..who can suggest recalibration of the directory categories as they discover new content.
If you are interested, pick a site with reference to gastropods, be it a single page or a whole website and send me a sample description. I'll pick the best from that. That way I know you're keen to do it. I do want as many as people as possible but I want to know that each entry will be properly vetted because the idea is that we won't have to run around editing and correcting things.
No doubt there will be other jobs coming along for others to get involved so please don't feel excluded if anyone can't do the above or doesn't get picked. It's all about getting people to do the jobs where they can make their best contribution and everybody is different.
