Very nice! I´m about to start breeding native and exotic beetles. They are fascinating pets.

I recomend the fruit beetles as a starter. Eudicella, and Smaragdesthes in particular. There egg to adult time is fairly short (a matter of months not years) and the adult imagos live for a long time compared to many species.

Ah stags? Im not having much luck with them atm, but then the lifecycle is quite drawn out and thier egg laying requirements much more taxing than a few dead leaves :\ Let me know what you end up with apple Would be interesting to hear how you get on.

Yes, stag beetles! Their substrat is usually decaying wood. I hope to keep some in the next months!

Ive started keeping Beetles again, at the moment I only have L3 size Chelorrhina polyphemus, a large African fruit Beetle, this is one of the larvae Im looking into keeping, and breeding, Lucanus cervus and Frog Beetles next, and maybe some other large fruit beetles.

Aye but most stags need a "hard" not too rotted chunks of wood, Ive always found the right type hard to find Hey kevin, any idea how long they take to get from egg to imago? Theyre the... big green horned ones with goldish patches? I might have to google check Im not remembering incorrectly. Frog beetles look stunning, but I hear you can only get them to breed if you supply them with a form of trailing vine, which cant be imported due to its voracious nature? Kudz... something. Let me know if you ever do try.

Im not sure how long they take to get from egg to imago? yeah theyre the big green horned ones, heres a link on them www.naturalworlds.org/scarabaeidae/species/Chelorrhina_polyphemus.htmThey're larvae grow inside Kudzu vines, i wasnt aware that they couldnt be imported? I was looking into getting kudzu for them, Ive read that sweet potato vine can be used as a substitute though, so I was going to use that if i couldnt get kudzu.

It might just be the states, but theres restrictions on that plant because of how destructive it can be. Such a rampant climber. I couldnt get hold of it when I first started on beetles 3 years ago, but then things might have changed. Ive never heard of sweetpotatoe vines being used, thats interesting. Might look that up.
