I "saved" a tadpole that got caught up in the new shipment of feeder goldfish at the shop I work at. There's also a crayfish/crawdad in there as well, but I coulden't take him as he could easily cause problems in my not-so-roomy aquarium. Right, to the tadpole! Got a piccie here, anyone have an idea what species he/she is? ;D This picture actually turned out quite adorable with my personality-packed female betta doing what she does best, checking EVERYTHING out! Actually she was quite helpful, she spooked the tadpole to sit next to the glass for me! She's so smart, I love her tons. ;D

I've seen something very similar that turned out to be an American Bullfrog

Ok, ive been bad, I haven't posted to ID my tadpole yet....but to be honest I may not need to before I know it!!!! Oh my gosh!! I just checked on him and SUDDENLY he had front legs! He GREW!!!! And they had ANOTHER tadpole slip into the feeder goldfish shipment, so ive yet again adopted another frog-to-be. It's become Evyn's tadpole-to-frog rescue!!

You will need to move him into a terrestrial setup very soon with a water bowl in or else they may drown, i do that with mine as soon as they get front legs, i pop them into the water bowl in the terrestrial setup and they climb out when they want, tail or not!

Well, ive got him in a 10 gallon with a rock to climb on if he wants. Not much, but better then nothing. Shall try to get some floaty plants in there and some gravel this weekend when I work again, but more importantly a LID! He's too small to jump out now, but he won't be for much longer I bet seeing as he suddenly spurted front limbs as he did! Im glad he's got a buddy though, ive left him in the aquarium because there's lots to eat. When he gets his front limbs i'll move him in with his slightly older buddy. Ive made a post at that forum as well, will post what they say! ;D

you can feed him on fish flakes if you didn't know, thats what i raise my tads on, then the ones that are in the terrestrial setup with soil and moss and a little bowl of water, thye eat micro crickets which they love

Would he really be alright with just a big bowl of water, soil and moss? If so that would be SO much easier! Sense he hadn't been on land yet I made most of the aquarium shallow water with a big rock he could easily climb on. This morning he went on it on his own, woo hoo! Go froggie! So if he would like that kind of setup I think now would be a good time to give it a go. Stupid question, but seeing as they have absorbent skin, should I continue to dechlorinate his water? Plan to anyway, but like to ask. Ive got cichlid pellets, goldfish bits, shrimp pellets and betta bites, so until I can find micro crickets (or wait until he can eat small size from my shop) ive got a good variety for him. ;D
He's getting better about being handled too, awww ;D Hey, is there a way to tell males from females? The forum folks haven't reponded again to confirm but they believe they are leopard frogs, and I agree as the wee froglet is developing spots which I coulden't see without the flash. The look of him/her suggests that too!

awww how cute, you are soo lucky to get them free, lol, i want a pet frog (exotic one) but i only raise common frogs and toads then release them.
I wonder how big he will grow, he looks pretty big already!

Aww thanks ;D Funny enough I am planning to adopt a little captive bred toadlet when I got to Scotland, and a native species too (which SEEM exotic to me of course sense I didn't grow up there). Glad im getting some practace with this little froggie and the froggie-to-be in my aquarium. Believe it or not he's still quite small, but this is my first experience with raising a tadpole successfuly. Here's him next to a quarter and a pound coin (yes I still have coinage from visiting my boyfriend! lol):

Ahhh, then he's a big boy then! ;D or girl, wish I knew. Ive been making sure to handle him often, he's getting quite good about it. He still startles a little when I pet him but half the time he tolerates it and I reward him by putting him back gently onto his rock.
Should I go ahead and plan to turn his shallow water with a rock aquarium into a terrarium with a large bowl for a pool and compost/moss for the substrate?

How big is he? Years ago I had an african bullfrog tadpole he was aobut 4 inches long. He turned into a frog and lived about 7 years. This was 20 years ago.
