How do you keep them?

The adult moths, dependant on activity and how well the worms fed, 4-7 days? So pretty, such short lived moths The cats are pretty interesting, got some pictures of 1st and 2nd instar ones on my webby The young cats I keep in tuppaware boxes until 3rd/4th instar then they get moved out into those popup insect cages? Eating privet atm. The cacoons are just strung up with cotton, regularly misted to keep up the humidity so thier heavy wings pump out right

Oh that's sad Such a beautiful thing dieing so soon. Just had a look at your site, funky cats! I'm now noseying round the rest of it lol Sounds quite easy to keep them, I keep looking at those butterfly kits you can buy, I'd love to do that someday. Gorgeous pictures, goodluck with the others. Oh, how can you tell if they're male or female?

Big fuzzy antena on the males of most moths detects the female scent hormones. If you have the time to spare collecting a few leaves every night its well worth rearing a species at least once. When you see the fat cats (having eaten most of next doors hedge) silking up a cacoon then finally have a moth emerge. Very rewarding recommend wwb.co.uk,

Wow, so beautiful! We just found a caterpillar the other day and the kids want to raise him to become a moth/butterfly. At the moment doing well. I wonder if we'll be able to show a pic of a similar beauty. Besides still wondering what caterpillar ours is. Found a good site with lots of pictures but idn't wade through them all yet! www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/

Popup insect cage, for the sake of breeding. If I had more than 5 cacoons I'd build a flight.

Wings are pretty tattered by then mike If you want to display insects, they really need to be gassed shortly after emergance, to keep the wings/body perfect.
