Hi,
I could do with some advice. I've had to rescue a tiny, about 4-5 weeks old, baby hedgehog. He jumped out in front of my car this afternoon while I was on my way home from work. He would definitely have been run over had I not stopped the traffic. As most people know a hedgey out in the daylight is usually in trouble. He is too young to look after himself but I should be able to release him in 4-5 weeks time. I have a secure garden he will be safe in. Should I still be giving him goats milk at this age? He is eating cat food on his own and drinking water. I have brandling worms and frozen mice of all sizes. I also have ready access to slugs etc. Does anyone know anything more about hedgehogs??? especially hoglets?

Thanks Sian.
I loooked at that site but I must have missed the info. I've rescued hedgeys before but it was about 14 yrs ago and they were a lot smaller than this little one. Until he can be released I've given him the name of Kamikazepig since he tried to commit suicide under my jeep.

I think he'll be fine too. I've rescued so many animals in my time. I was involved in a hedgehog rescue a lot of years ago but they were real 'tinies' and I couldn't quite remember whether I should feed cat food or dog food but this little chap is happy with cat food.
He's been out in his cage eating like a pig it's hilarious listening to him. He slurps like a baby. I've given him some felix cat milk mixed in with his food as that is what a local rescue has advised.

I've been in touch with a local wildlife rescue and, as they know me, they are happy for him to stay with us s they are overrun. He is getting cat food and mealworms and the occssional brandling worm. He's eating like a pig and already putting a little weight on. I have taken pics it's just finding the time to get them on here. It won't be long tho'.
Eggs can 'bind' the little ones but he has had a tiny bit in his food but you have to be really careful.
Although I've done this before I'd forgotten how time consuming it can be. All after a 10 hour shift at work. Thankfully John is doing a lot of the work with all the animals.

Here are the pics of Kamikazepig. They are a bit small but I don't know how to enlarge them. The mobile is there so you can see how small he is.
