Can you all keep your fingers crossed for our youngest cat Errol who is fighting for his life at the emergency vets as we speak. Errol has a history of kidney problems following a nasty electric shock he got as a young kitten before he came to us. Tonight he collapsed and he's currently being worked on miles away at the emergency vets. There's nothing we can do but keep everything crossed.

Aww Kathy I can remember the piccies you posted of him at the time, poor little mite. He's obviously a fighter to have come this far after such a horrific accident so fingers crossed he'll fight his way back again. Good luck little man, thinking of you (((hugs)))

Just had an update, yes. He's still catheterised and has been flushed out again. There's no change since this morning, but he is doing okay. He's going to be in until at least Monday, probably longer. The vet will update me again in the morning. Thanks for all your messages!

Bless him, glad he is feeling better and allowed home.
Kathy was he dx having kidney problems? or CRF? The reason I ask is because I have a cat who has type 1 diabetic (born diabetic) and she has kidney problems. With being diabetic does not help, so she's on a long term medication (insulin b.i.d., medication for low potassium and also kidneys failure) If Errol has kidneys problems, may be you can talk to your vet and see if it would help if Errol is on kidneys medication? And dry biscuits do not help with kidneys problems (not that I say it, it has some kind of proof although the vet probably prescribes k/d for kidneys failure patients in the practice. It's a long story.)

Hiya Yeah long story if you've got time? *lol* Errol came to us at 12 weeks old. A fortnight previously he bit through a mains cable in his old home, and suffered a nasty electric shock, lost half his tongue, had burns, etc etc, yada yada. He came to us on a Wednesday and on that Saturday was in emergency vets with penile obstruction, same as this time. Took a while to recover, blood in wee etc, vet presumed mild kidney damage from electric shock - could even (at that point) have been the electric shock that formed the crystals that made up most of the urethral plug. Crystals were not tested He came home on S/D (dry) for a week, then C/D for a further two weeks. After that vet okayed him to go onto "normal" Hills (or other dry kitten food), which I don't feed unless prescription diets. He's been on Burns then Burgess since (Burns is cack, don't know why I believed the hype). I know to avoid dry with these probs but the others get dry and I didn't want Errol on wet permanently, but obviously now things'll have to change. He's having the wee test tomorrow to determine whether he has struvite or oxalate tendencies *lol*. Then we can determine diet from then, but I think we'll try the Waltham/Canin diet (he had a couple of pouches of their struvite diet last time and much prefered them to the Hills bics). After tomorrow, we just have to wait and see if he presents further symptoms of renal failure. I think it's likely given his history, but I also think unless it's severe we should be able to control things with diet. It's depressing thinking of long term medication on an 8 month old kitten, that's something we'd have to weigh up the pros and cons of, QOL, etc. Fingers crossed it doesn't get to that point! I now have to weigh up whether it's "safe" to neuter a male indoor cat with kidney/FLUTD problems, as male indoor neutered cats are the highest risk group for this. I also have to toy with the idea of letting him out although I hope it won't come to that either!

Of course I have time, but only when I am interested to know something. LOL! Thanks for telling me his story.
I hope the check up is okay today. Keep us posted.
