Dumpling left us for the bridge the night before last - he was one of a pair of rats Kathy rescued from a pet shop, underaged, unweaned and apparently bred by a show winning breeder (but not a very reputable one!). He leaves his brother Stu, who's lost without him - and also his cagemate Vai (who I suspect is celebrating) As a baby (black hoodie) And as a big boy Night night gorgeous.

RIP.
You lost so many rats within such a short time, must be gutted. But then they're all rescued at the same time, so that is expected?

Yep, I went through a stage of taking on rats closely together, so they've all got old at the same time. Dumpling was only about 20 months though, so it was a bit unexpected - despite him being a long term myco snuffler and not having the best care as a baby.
The average life expectancy for a rat is 22 months. My youngest now is 15 months (Loki the cinnamon essex dumbo buck), but I do have quite a few oldies, including Angel who is about 31 months now and he's still going strong.

Dumpling was a rather spesh boy - him and his brother hold an immense soft spot in my heart after what they went through as babies. Hard to believe but these babies were the weight of 2 week old rat kittens when they came to me. It's illegal to sell animals unweaned or under the age of 6 weeks from what I know - their breeder couldn't have cared less, she got her fag money from the petshop.
Dumpling was such a gorgeous boy, I'm so sorry Lisa.
