I didn't even know you could get them as pets. They are gorgeous - how do you keep them?

I keep mine in a indoor rabbit cage. They have a hide and a huge ferrit wheel for exercise.

What colours do you have? sex? My ones are normal coloured, I have a male and female, they are both nearly 5 years old now. I keep mine in a indoor rabbit cage. They have a hide and a huge ferrit wheel for exercise. you do keep them seperate dont you? even females may fight if kept together.

I keep them together for about a week then keep them apart so she can give birth. They are great together.
Best not to keep them together all the time as males pester females and males eat the babies, but females can eat babies also.

Ive been told of someone that keeps them together successfully in a very large area, personally I wouldnt risk it with my ones though, i was told by the breeder I got my ones from that they need to be kept seperatly, as they fight, and this has been confirmed by some people I know who has tried to keep them together.

Like most animals though depends what their personalities are like. I keep tortoises and I can keep my male horsfiled with my female horsfiled where others people cant keep theirs together because they fight. Im lucky I guess.
I hope to see some little spikes running around soon.

Very tempted now but would need a larger house and a permanent menagerie sitter what with cats and fish and now snails! Fiance already calls it The Ark as it is!

I've always wanted one of these. I would be very interested in one as a pet. would I be better off with a male or a female to keep as a pet? I've rescued orphan wild hedgehogs this year and they have just been put out into an outside pen ready for release. I sent them up to the wild animal rescue about 3 weeks ago because I didn't want to release them even though I know it's best for them. I've had them since they were about 3 weeks old so I got overly attached to them. They are both around 600grms now so they are big enough to release.
