Hi,
A lady called Sarah contacted me, saying her snail (Achatina fulica), which she kept in isolation from the size of 5 pence piece (and never had contact with another snail) had laid eggs and that the theory of self-fertilsation was correct. I asked her if she was keeping any, because until they hatch we don't know if they are fertile. Unfortunately she hasn't kept them....
Well, it turns out she missed a few and they have hatched. Proof positive that self-fertilisation can and does occur. That's the first time that I have heard of real unequivocable proof.

I remember also that Gabi posted about an immaculata that was always kept apart from others that self fertilised.

I have 4 Achatina fulica 3 of them are borthers/sisters but the other one is soo much bigger and unrelated and she/he laid 10 eggs on her own unfortunatly 6 of them had been crushed by the other snails but i have rescued the remaining 4 and put them in an air holed container with the original soil in, how long will they take to hatch?

Is this your snail's first batch of eggs? Often the first batch of eggs is a small infertile batch.

I'm sure there was a program on tele a while ago about snails self fertilising them selves when they could not find a mate.

Well, this is pretty much what I signed up to discuss XD
A lovely little fulica (I THINK) was sort of dumped on me while at uni. I've not got him any friends I'm afraid, mostly out of fear of him breeding *sigh*
I've had him for almost two years now and have found five or six eggs on top of his substrate maybe twice. Yesterday though, he practically buried himself and, as it turns out, dropped about 200 eggs.
Yiy.
I'm afraid I've boiled all but four of them (two are yellow and two are white... not sure what the difference is). I'll keep this thread updated if they hatch.
Not entirely sure how I can prove he's been kept on his lonesome though...

all my Achatina Immaculata ver. Panthera are the result of self-fertilisation as the owner had only a single snail
I had 15 (gave away 2), and the total clutch was 50+
