How many of you keep your G.A.L.S together? I want to get some but they breed like mad i've read. Is it okay to keep a pair or three together, or will they be stressed out from breeding/laying so many eggs =S I don't want to do it if it stresses them out.
Sorry if it sounds like a NEWB Q! Lol!

I don't think they'll stress out cuz they mate cuz they wanna. And snails hold their eggs in until they want to lay it sumwhere. LOL It's best to freeze sum eggs too. (I HEARD) Cuz the population lol

I keep mine together. A. Fulica aren't the only sort of GALS - the archachatina only lay a handful of eggs at a time and are much easier to find homes for if you let them hatch. However, as has been said, just because they lay mate and lay eggs doesn't mean you have to let them hatch. Freezing eggs is a humane way of preventing hatching. Snails are not full of the parental spirit - they won't fret if they never get to raise snailets. There's debate about whether they enjoy company more than they do being alone, but if you have several I'd probably keep them together and just be vigilant about finding eggs before they hatch. It's possible - though i don't know much about how documented it is - for snails to self-fertilise, so even keeping them alone is not a 100% guarentee of no eggs.

mine are together, and happy like it. personally i don't like to keep snails alone, they don't seem to hate company, i doubt they'd mate if they did! Freeze any eggs overnight you can't rehome then crush them. It sounds nasty but its the best way, as there is a lot of problems rehoming excess babys. Make sure you check all through your tank regularly and you'll be fine.

i keep my snails together too. as has been said on the above threads, snails mate because its in their nature and them want to. I wouldn't worry about it stressing them out because wel ... they enjoy it! lol

Thansk for the quick answers peeps! I was just wondering because with some animals males always try to breed with the female and stresses them out so I was wondering if it was the same case with snails -- guess not!!!
thanks again

Snailysnaily: the margies like it a bit damper than the fulicas, but they should be fine.

i have had my 2 fuli & my Margi together about 7mths now & they are FINE my Margi was a little "odd" for a few weeks - not ill but a little slower than the other 2 & not out as much & over time ive made the tank a little damper than i used to & all 3 are now out & about a fair amount now so i think ive got a happy medium

you can keep snails from a diferent genus together
e.g. lissachatina, achatina and archachatina can all be kept in the same tank and they won't breed
