hi i have 2 fulica, and have noticed scratchy marks on the shells, both of them have them, but they wasnt there a few days ago. they are both the same size and have plenty of cuttlefish ect. is it rasping and why are they doing it??? the only thing that i have changed is ive given them a heat mat after reading info on here, but it is only covering about 1/3 rd of the tank any suggestions

maybe it's just normal wear-and-tear? how noticeable is it?

i agree with lotsofsnails unless you catch them doing it it's hard to say. Are they eating the cuttlefish? or at least sitting on it? if so it's not a calcium problem. you could try adding a little calcium powder on their food if they don't rasp the cuttlefish....some snails don't.
Also most substates are acidic, check the packaging. Acidic soil, coir (coconut fibers) and other substrates can cause damage to the shells, and although it doesn't effect the health og the snails isn't that pretty. You can add pure calcium powder, from a garden centre to the soil to take the PH above 7. I get a kilo of it for 30 cent from a seed shop.
