Discovery of the day - there is no funk or foul mood, however deeply entrenched, that cannot be lifted by the blissful expression of a snail *really* enjoying a warm bath under the tap. Discuss

Yeah its funny isn`t it? I had mine drinking from the tap the other day! its odd because they`re normally quick to go into their shell so you`d think they`d be afraid of a running tap! I don`t normally put a water bowl in my tank but I`m looking at doing something for them there,I suppose they`d use it as a bath if they like the water that much! lol

Snails love water, so please, do put a shallow bowl of water in their tank. Some of mine, if I didn't know any better, I would swear that they were aquatic snails.

Ive just added a bowl of water for my older snails as when i spray the tank they at start slimeing over the sides of the tanks that have drops of water on. So I think they will like a bit of water.
Worried about putting one in with the babies as they are so small, so will probably wait until they have grown a bit.

Oh snail bathing is lovely isn't it Doogle always enjoys a warm little shower under the tap, he sticks his head right under the flow <3 I wish I could bath him every day because he's always covered in soil, but I worry that he'll be too wet =/

toffee and fudge have a little water dish, but fudge keeps covering it and won't let toffee in, so toffee sits on his shell, its so funny . i think fudge is a bit of a bully, lol

I had a little water dish in with the margies but it was about big enough for 1/3 of Amberdrake and seeing him trying to smoosh more of himself into it... I swapped it over for a dish big enough for him and, if he's willing to share, Darkwind at the same time - though when they're fully grown there'll only be room for one! But I'll address that problem later It's big enough for the baby retics in there to have a proper paddle around.

The bowl in the tank now is this one: www.livefoodsbypost.co.uk/zoo-med-repti-rock-feed-dish-medium-fd-30-2518-p.asp - there's no size listed on the site but it's about 18cm x 14cm and only deep enough for a few mm of water, which is ideal - and I keep it partly over the under-substrate heat mat, so it might pick up a little warmth from that, I haven't tested it. When it's proper bathtime, it's just a snail sitting on my hand over the sink and a warm running tap, using the other hand to direct the water as necessary. With a toothbrush for scrubbing if needed

hi all ive been reading the tread on the showering snails. i do give mine a bath regulary but only use warm water in a bowl, does anyone know how long they can be in water? how deep? and how big do they need to be to handle a shower? mine also stretch right out when in the water, but i was worried incase they dont like it, when it seems by the thread that they are actually loving it. can anyone clear it up so i can make their life even better thanks

hi, my snails love bath time too. I've never used the shower though. I hold one in one hand, run a tap and use my other hand to cup water over them. I also use an old toothbrush to lightly scrub their shells, then when they're dry I rub a little linseed oil onto their shells.
As to your questions I'd say only shower a snail if it's big enough to be held securely in one hand without the risk of you cracking it's shell. Only put so much water in the bowl so that the water line is below the shell....that's where the airhole is, if the water is above the airhole, then the snail can't breath. They'll stay in the water as long as they like, when they've had enough they'll climb out themselves.
hope this helped

Well I never really bathe my snails, I just let them take a shower in the sink while being on my hands Why I prefer to hold my snails is just because its easier to place them back in the tank that way, instead of trying to slide my fingers underneath them if they are on the sink

I usually take something like maximum 1cm water in some container etc, I clean snails shells with some soft sponge and keep them in container in water to wait "turns" to get shells cleaned. Then they can drink and slime around as much they like I usually let them be there as long as I wipe tank from slime. Or sometimes I was them under tap, but I keep my finger separate just in case that snails will not drown and water can drain between my fingers.

Well if your snail i small like mine which mine is a 2cm baby snail prob garden one, i would get a cintainer or milk bottle lid, if you have a spraying waterbottle foryour snail spray it frm about 30cm distance then keep doing it until there is some droplets of water and rub it with a cotton bud. Other option in case you dont have a waterbottle, take the lidx2 put snailio in 1st lid put some water in spare lid and use the cotton bud to get thewater the gently rub her/his shelll hope i helped!

I like the keep all my boys together when I bathe them, but they don't like sitting on the ceramic in the sink so I bring things out of the tank for them all to sit on. Then I'll run a tap in the far corner with the plug out. It gets nice and steamy XD
While I handle one the other two slime around in the sink. I'll wash water over their bodies and shells with my hand (one of them also likes water dripped on his head), then give them a little buff with a sponge or soft brush as dirt tends to get into the grooves between whirls. Finish off with a shell shining using a soft cloth and flax/linseed oil.
