I personaly wouldn't recomend it. Coir which is coconut fibers is great. You'll have to add some chalk powder to it as it's slightly acidic. You can get it from the pet shop. I've also seen people use a sort of carpet in the tank....I don't know what this is called though.

Oh, okay, i'll remeber that, i'll probably wait to see how they go, and if they dont burrow, or act 'normal' then i will change it again lol. thankyou

i tried all sorts but found everything became soggy and dificult to clean out, then i saw some puppy training mats at our local pound shop these are perfect and dont harm the snails at all. now cleaning is a breeze. just put in a bowl of soil for them to burrow in and yr away.

Can you tell us a little more about the conditions you're maintaining in the tank? Temperature, humidity, occupants etc. I'm curious as to how you keep it damp enough without the pads disintegrating.

its a large fish tank with a light which is the only source of heat, i keep a shallow bowl of water in the tank lined with cotton wool to stop the smaller snails drowning. the air stays quite damp and the pads absorb any excess moisture which means no soggy mess. my snails are very happy, feed well and are growing so i presume its all OK in there.

have you tried sphagnum moss? its pretty popular with snails that don't like soil a lot of the time, and it stays nice and damp. personally i wouldn't use repti sand with snails.
