One of my Iredalei have been making lot's of sounds for a couple of days. Just now he was making quite a lot of sounds actually. I don't know how he makes them but they are clicking sounds and squeking sounds that are so loud they can be heard through the terrarium sides and the entire room it's in. The sounds are quite loud so first I thought it was one of the larger snails that was responsible but now I managed to track it down to him. He imediatly stops if I pick him up though. Thoose of you who have heard the snailsongs on yuri yashins webpage may know what I'm talking about. The sounds he's making are louder and more "comunicative" if I'm making any sense.
He seems to be perfectly fine though and don't seem to be ill or in pain in any way he just makes a lot of sounds time to time.
Is this an indication of that something is wrong perhaps? or is this quite normal? My two margies have shared tank with them for a while but moved into a tank of their own a while ago and since they moved he's making a lot of noises.

my snails make popping noises that are a bit squeaky sometimes and their fine. Sometimes they click and squeak when in their tank, and all the sounds are pretty loud. One time they popped so loud it woke me up, lol . i shouldn't think theres anything to worry about, although you might want a second opinion.

Can you tell if it's the snail all by itself making the noise? I've heard that a snail rapidly retracting into its shell can make a squeaking sort of noise.
Is it possible it's a noise from the shell against the side of the tank or other object inside the tank?

It's the snail itself making the noises. It's not retracting while making the noises, sometimes it's sitting still out of it's shell and sometimes it's crawling around both on the substrate and on the sides of it's tank. I'm sure it's not the sound of the shell against anything.
I've heard my margies making clicking noises at some times but this noises are louder and more frequent. What caught my attention is that it's a quite small snail and I was surprised to hear such a quantity and volume of noises. It's a 7,4 cm Iredalei.

Hmm, a bit of a mystery. Here's the link to Yuri's snailsongs page, so people can hear some examples: www.achatina.ru/Other/Song-En.htmCan you tell if there's anything in the breathing hole that might account for the noises?

Coyote, I also thought it could be that there was something in the breathing hole and I had good look but couldn't discover any abnormalities or objects. I'm not really worried for him just a little bit surprised he could make so much noise

At least they aren't as loud as the cat howling out the window at a strange cat in the yard. I'd like to see a snail outdo that!! ;D
