Hello... I am new here and I have a question about my african land snail. It's a similar question to the one about the snail being detached from the shell. I'm hoping somebody can help. Here is a picture: Is this something serious? Is there something that can be done? Please help! Thanks!

Seconded. That hole is always there but it's usually not quite that obvious. The snail in the picture is stretching out, so you're getting a clear view of it. Then again, you can see the pore on his neck, so maybe he's feeling broody? When they are about to lay eggs, you can see them just inside the shell via that hole.

That looks like a fantasticle natural looking set-up you have there.
And yeah...nothing to worry about. When the mantel is detached you'd know about it. The snails shell would be floppy as the snail wouldn't be able to support it

Sometimes the breathing hole can look really huge, but that's normal.
