my helix aspersa has sealed itself in its shell, and has retracted back a little ways.. I cant get him to come out with warm water, or food. I havent brought him out to play in a little while becuase i didnt want to wake him since they are naturally nocturnal. I figured he was fine since every morning when i woke, his food had been nibbled, along with his cuttlefish.
I am wondering if maybe the helix aspersa hibernates? It is starting to get colder here where I live in canada, and today my boyfriend turned off the heat in our place while we were at work, so the place was cold for at least 6 hours.. it gets pretty cold in here with the poor insulation. though the lowest its gotten thus far is -14C, but thats cold enough for me, lol..
I don't think I have really ever seen a snail in the outdoors around here before in my entire life (I found him on a plant that was brought in from a greenhouse to where i work) so it brings me to believe that maybe this little guy isnt used to this climate.
I havent heard of anyone using a heat mat for a garden snail before, but I also think I am probably the only Canadian on this board, so I dont know if our differing climate regions (I dont know how big a difference it would be) would make this a difficult question.
Anyways, Im basically just wondering if anyone might know whats wrong with him :/
