Hey, Just now I heard a bump in my snail's tank, and when I checked, Arnie my fulica had fallen from (I think) the lid of the tank - could have been just at the top at the side. He hasn't got any damage on his shell from this, and I picked him up and gave him a bath after and he seems fine, he's eating at the moment. He wasn't retracted atall when I picked him up, some of his body was out although he wasn't fully extended. Do snails sometimes fall for no reason, or could there be any sort of problem? Thanks

I don't think this would indicate that something would be wrong with your snail. My snail also fall sometimes, some more than other and most of the times without dire consequences.
Snails can be clumbsy, so if you don't notice any apperent damage he is most probably fine.

I'd have thought if he was uncomfortable or hurt at all he'd not be eating, so that surely is a good sign. Maybe an idea to remove any stones/rocks that you've got in your tank - I dont have any for this reason cos I know other people who've had snails fall and hurt themselves Hopefully your little guy is all okay

Thanks for your help I used to have some stones in my tank but removed them a while ago since I found they could hurt them - I've got some resin reptile dishes and a plastic plant and plant pot so hopefully if there's any more falls there shouldn't be any significant damage. Good to hear there's probably nothing wrong with him - but I'll keep an eye on him just incase

Mine do this too - one thing I didn't expect when I started keeping snails was that soon, the gentle clunk of a snail losing its grip on the lid and falling would be a familiar sound! The cats haven't worked out what it is yet so it still sets them on mild alert

baby snails are funny when they fall. Saunders sleeps on the wysteria brach in there and when she wakes up she rolls off

Skandranon (big tiger) won B's heart by falling off her arm onto the sofa, then looking around with an incredibly bemused expression, as though he couldn't work out how he was on an arm one second and upside down on a cushion the next! I should've taken a picture but I was too busy laughing

Ooh I do hope the cats don't notice the noise - I have enough trouble keeping our kitten away as it is! Arnie had another fall the other day - again, no damage to his shell atall and he's still active and eating - I've never noticed him fall before this so maybe he's just catching up
