I highly doubt that snail was alive during this whole time. >_>

I believe one source I found that story at said the snail was alive and the boy was keeping it as a pet.

I heard the same thing, I saw a photo of him actually holding the tiny snail and it appeared to be propped up in a normal sitting position. Great that he's actually coped with it so well, a lot of people would be screaming and never touch a snail again.

Wow, I can see the poo (or guts?) coiled right up inside that thing!

I wonder the same thing about the brown insides.Maybe is just really poo and he's totally see through?

Is snail poo that big when the snail's body is that small? (Haha, this conversation )

While we're at the poo topic, I have a little guessing game for you. Guess which one of these, ate the green sweet pepper for breakfast and which one(s) picked the red one.

And then, from snail poo we can go back to snails in the media I'm reading a Finnish dystopia novel that has gigantic snails in it. Unfortunately it's in Finnish only but the book is called "Kaiken yllä etana" and it's written by Janos Honkonen. So far it's been good, Kafka-ish. And the descriptions of the massive snails, huge shells and lonnnng eye stalks are a good read for a snail obsessive reader like myself

It is - the gigantic snails' role in it is very surprising and creatively thought of. I may not spoil it here, though, it in case any Finnish snail keepers decide to read it The book is a kind of a response to all those self help books that teach you "the world is what you think it is". Oh and I just now noticed that in ihmettelija's photo above, the baby snail shells are very see through. I didn't see it earlier because I was browsing with my phone. Ahaha!

I finished the dystopia novel with snails in it. It was fantastic, very refreshing, with quite the ending. Also, have you seen this: www.ourbreathingplanet.com/armored-snail/An aquatic snail that can use iron sulphides in the outer layer of his shell, so that he actually grows armor?! I found this hard to believe at first, but Wikipedia confirmed it's true. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaly-foot_gastropodThey found it in 2001, two kilometers deep in the sea, at black smokers. First the see-through "glass" snail linked earlier in this thread and now this, woah.

That's insane! An armored snail! I guess it's true what they say- reality is often far stranger than fiction!
