Hi there, I have added some pictures to my page on the Roman snail's reproduction and mating. They were made by my friend Mica Brugsch and they nicely show a love dart and, as we think, also the spermatophore, which could not be transferred properly and so remains visible. Pictures: Mica Brugsch.Kind regards Robert

Hi there, thanks for complimenting me... There is another picture, which I uploaded, as she kindly provided me: A Roman snail, on which the swollen region of the head, where the attractant gland is active, can clearly be seen. Picture: Mica Brugsch. There are, as I may have mentioned, also pictures of a Roman snail mating with a banded snail, and Arno Brosi kindly provided me with a picture of a lucorum mating with a pomatia. Interestingly enough, pomatia does not persist on the usual position of mating (the erect version), but mates in the common way, when mating with another species. Here again, so you don't have to scroll, is the page I refer to: The reproduction of the Roman snail. And this is the picture series of the inter-species mating: Inter species mating of a Roman snail (Helix pomatia) with a grove snail (Cepaea nemoralis). Kind regards Robert

First time I saw one of my first pomatia do this I totally freaked! I definitly thought he was sick or had some internal parasites or something. I acyually had it quarantined for a while before learning what it was, fellt kind of silly then
