We are currently looking after 4 GALS from school and I have noticed that the tank keeps getting filled up with 'liquid'. They are in a general tank and we use aquatic soil. Our own GALS is also on on aquatic soil but we don't seem to have the same problem. Can anyone advice please its getting to the point that they are having to be cleaned out nearly every 3 weeks. They are fed on cucumber and courgette. is this the problem Thanks

Hmm, perhaps you're spraying too much? Or maybe they don't have enough ventiliation? I'm not really sure of the difference between aquatic soil and 'normal' soil, but if you use it in your other tank with no difficulties I guess it's not that. Do you have heatmats on either of the tanks? They can dry up the soil quite a bit, and if you have one on your own tank and not on the one you're looking after, that might be an explanation?

hi, thanks for reply. They don't have heat mats in either tank, and it deffinatly not due to spraying. So I am at a bit of a loss.

Most probably, this is due to lacking ventilation. See if you can add more airholes and the problem will be fixed. A good thing to have in mind when purchasing a tank or constructing one yourself is the air let through(not to sure if this is the right word). To have the tank self ventilate holes/netting on the top and holes/netting along the side just above substrate level are more or less nescessary.
