I previously posted about getting some new fulicas and was worried that they seemed retracted, well had them since 20th July and I can't seem to get it right, they are all at sometime or another retracting and I can't find the cause, they all come out for food at night and if I want to wake them up I just have to gently blow into the shell and they are out like a shot, they are all eating and growing fine but are retracted when sleeping/resting and it's starting to really stress me out. their tank is currently being kept at 80% humidity and the room temperature is 27 degrees. They are in a large storage box with loads of holes drilled in the lid for ventilation. I keep tigers, albino retics and a margie and they are thriving but the fulicas are beyond me (considering I've read they are the easiest to keep, easiest requirements) Any help would be appreciated.

Hiya
Since i'm new to keeping snails i'm prob the last person to give any advice but when you say "retracted" you mean in they are hiding / sleeping in their shells , right ?
The only time my 4 snails (tigers/retics) are NOT hiding in their shells is in the evening/later in the night when they are out to eat, as soon as they've eaten their fill (this can take a couple of hours or so) they once again normally burrow into their coir substrate and will be "inside" their shells.
from what i've read, researched & observed I take this to be normal snail behaviour.
You say your is at 27 degrees, Ive read on here most people saying fulcias do not need additional heat so perhaps that is abit to warm for their preference ?

If they wake up easily and are coming out at night to eat, it sounds like normal nocturnal snail behavior to me.
I can't speak to fulica temperature requirements, though, so it may very well be too warm for them.

I could move them near the window to try cool them down, the room itself is 27 degrees, I have 2 tropical fish tanks that haven't had their heaters plugged in for 3 months, though this could be the reason my tigers are so happy.

well last night I moved the fulicas near the window and had it wide open and they seem better already, I think they could have been too hot, never thought about heat as the other snails are fine but they do like it warmer, also I put another hygrometer in their tank and I think it is also too wet the one in there has been saying 80% keeping quite steady and the other one is saying 90% so will be trying to dry them out a bit today. thanks for the input
