one of my snails seems to have this weird white growth on his side (sort of near his head). it seems to almost pulse in and out - sometimes it will almost disappear and all you can see is a small white mark, then the next moment it will 'ooze' out and look like a giant puss-filled spot (about 5mm at it's biggest).
anyone know what this could be?
if anyone thinks it could help i will try to take a photo of him later on.
he seems fine generally, eating etc.
help??

That sounds like his sex organs. Startling if you don't expect them but entirely normal

is there any reason why he should suddenly start showing it off? does it mean he is likely to start breeding soon? he is only about a year old and the other snail in there with him is a few months younger but considerably smaller.....

At a year old he's just right the right age to be thinking about making babies. The younger snail may also be old enough - if the other snail is much smaller than it's likely only the larger of the two will end up carrying eggs if they mate, but once you've seen one showing his bits off it's a good idea to begin checking regularly for eggs
