Ok, im planning on hitting my mum with the old "Can i have more snails pleeeeaaaaase bomb" sometime soon. I know how i'm going to go about it, and when to ask her (when she'sin a reeeaaaaly good mood haha). This has got me thinking though, in the past times i'v asked her, its been either "Absolutely not!" or "If you must, might as well get two, to keep him company" hahaha.
I always go by the "Mum, i have all the money, i'v been saving up for aaaages. Can I please buy one of these? Just to keep Irony company, because he thinks sprout is a migit, and he doesn't get along well with migits. He needs a friend" Then show her some piccies of some really cute snails (in my opinion, not so much hers) And she'll either say yes, or she'll say no, or she'll ignore me. Depends whether the time is right lol.
So, i was wondering, when you want to buy some more snailies to add to your collections, how do you go about asking your parents / partners etc? And what responced do you normaly get?

"What, these? No, I've had these for ages. They're not new." (Not recommended if you have parents/partners who can tell snails apart.)

I always do the "look what someone on the forums has sent me" line - works a treat on my hubby! We now have ten tanks of snails and twelve of cockroaches, and he thinks I only bought four lots!! Lucky I look after the money in our house though

try...ooh look what come in the post TADA! ROFL! I've been warned that if I try the "he followed me home" with a dog I'll be locked outside with it Spitfire: genius. I might have to see if I can get that one to work. Heh, I've just told a lot of this to Spitfire in a PM XD I managed to persuade my partner this week to let me adopt some unwanted rats. Alas, by the time I'd got him to say yes the advertisement was gone. I mostly used the "it would make me happy" line, along with "but what if they go to a bad home!" I also had to persuade him to let me get more snails, even though they would live quite happily in the tank I already have. That was a lot easier though. Mostly I told him that Avery needs a friend and I've got a new hobby, doesn't he want me enjoying my new hobby (he thinks this forum has infested my brain or something)? Now I have to work on getting him to let me have some roaches... this could be difficult. He knows I love bugs though (see a beetle running across the ground and I HAVE to stop and look at it, usually declaring how cute it is, much to his amusement), so that will make it easier. My mom's a big softy when it comes to getting pets. She brought a puppy home once, without telling my dad... he was not best pleased, I can tell you. Now she fosters rescue dogs until they can find a forever-home. She was always a big pushover... even with creepy crawlies like stick insects, or slimy things like newts and frogs. So er... not a lot of help there. With my dad it was always "if I do such-and-such will you let me get such-and-such?" So for my mice it was keeping my room tidy for a month... hahah! That was difficult. I am NOT a tidy person, I have a lot of stuff AND I shared a room with my sister. For my first rat I think I kept the whole house tidy. That was a lot easier as it was just myself and my dad and he's pretty tidy himself. Maybe offer to clean the bathroom for a month? Or do the gardening (getting a bit cold for that though)? Either way; good luck! Oh, remember to tell her how well you've looked after the snails you have. You've proven you can handle the responsibility of two so now you want to expand... and hobbies should be encouraged.

i tried the simple, "can i have some of these?", line when I first asked this, but got the Simple, "No.", line, and after some arguing, pulling sad faces, and telling her how much i would love her if sh let me get some, I still got "no." Haha!
Dont quite dare to try the whole "look what someone sent me" line. Wouldn't know how to pay for it, and no body would sell to me now they know I don't have my mums permission xD
Hmmm. I'll ask her again when I have gotten myself a saturday job. Earn my own money. Lets see her say no to that. My money. I can spend MY money on what I like ;P
Haha

Try I've just read.... in this case snails are very sociable and are happier when living in a group, so it would make them happier if you got more

The first snail I asked my husband for, it did take a small amount of convincing him. I have a few more arriving tomorrow that I didn't ask him for, I just got them, which he wasn't too pleased with. I convinced him that they didn't really affect him though as they are going in the tank with the other one and he won't even notice them!
