Hi everyone, just a quick question
I've bought an exo-terra analogue hygrometer and analogue thermometer for my snail tank. It's just a little plastic tank 30cm long, 20cm wide. Where should i place the thermometer and hygrometer in the tank??
Many thanks ;D

Well i keep my thermometer usually placed near the heatsource, and the hygrometer i move around a bit once in a while At least i did, now i dont touch them that much since i pretty much got a hang of it, but i still regularly check the temp/humidity to see if everything is as it should be Since its quite a small tank you got I would first measure the warmest side, then see what the temperature is at the cooler side, since the snails should have a chance to chose wether they want it warmer or a bit cooler

fab, thank you very much! I just want to see if the tank is moist/warm enough - make sure i'm doing everything as i should be. Suppose it'll be more useful when i get a bigger tank - only got two baby fulica's in there just now, awaiting delivery of 4 baby fulica hameilla (is that how you spell it?! lol).
thanks again!

Having a plastic tank mine doesnt even read anything- the exo terra one I've brought two non working already. Im jinxed! I think its also because the plastic isnt a good conductor of the heat and its just not reading it.

Well, its a thermometer, it should still read the heat, no matter where it is =/ Maybe try something else but exo terra? Lately I have heard that exoterra isnt that super Anything that reads the heat and humidity works, it dosnt necissary have to be any 'reptile' brand Im using a plastic tank to my two baby fulicas, and ive tried to keep both my hygrometer and my thermometer in that, and its been working fine, so think you just had some bad luck and getting broken ''meters''

How do you know they are not working? I thought mine might be broken (perhaps the needle wasn't afixed to whatever it is that registers the heat/moisture or something) as neither seemed to move much no matter what I did. So I took them out and put them on the radiator for a while. They worked. They're just not very... quick at registering changes.

It does work now, Kind of it only reads 20 or 22 though when it is DEFINATELY more than that inside their tank. It took a couple days to actually get started too.
Hoping it will just impove.

Sometimes these devices have a set screw on the back for adjusting them. If you have access to a second thermometer, try placing the 2 side by side, and adjust the one for the tank to match the other one (if it actually is adjustable). If not, you'll have to guesstimate the best you can, or get another thermometer.
