I found on on Finnish reptile forum this really interesting tread. It was called "How to keep up natural conditions and year cycle?"
I will tell you how it goes. First you choose animal that you want to have natural conditions in tank. Then you find out where they are from. Example I choose my snails and they are from Africa and some where from Tanzania I think..? Then you start to search information how long is day in diffenrent times of year in that place where your animals are from, and check and write down the weather.
You have to also think how much changing you animals can stand, if not much you change example day/nigh cycle, like I'm planning to do.
Now I have all ready find how long is day/night time in Africa, I found it out from some weather stations last year log about those times.
Now I just have day and night for my snails. This in fisrt winter I have to use heating for my snails, after spring I'm taking heating off and changing they day light as lamp which is suitable for plants.
When I started to look more carefully those day and night times I decided to change soon as possible it to Africas times, we in Europe have so long days in summer that it's better to make more natural for snails. So it's really exciting to see and wait do they like me as their weatherman. I change day night cycle when day is about 12 hours long so it's don't change too quick before that I'm changing day time as it goes in Finland, I don't like to doudle day time out of no reason.
I'm not changing conditions as in humidity etc, maybe just that away winter is drier (tank don't dry as fast as summer) and summer is more moist because in summer tank dries out quicker.
I'm getting new tank some day. It's going to be so big that I decided to take few weeks of nice "weather" for example how often I should spray tank if I can't get it moist as I'm trying to get in to new spraying routine. To hotter weeks some raining week and for not so hot days one week that tank won't get too wet those just for hints if I can't get tank staying anyhow in balanced humidity .
