So, I'm planning on pimping my terrarium a bit. I thought I'd first start with a background, if I manage to get some temporary containers for my snails before I get to it, I'll use foam insulation spray and then place sikamix on it (sikamix is Sikacim mixed with water, peat and potting soil into a goo and then applied to the foam insulation).. the result is so incredibly natural and it can even grow moss on it If I wont be able to get temporary containers for the snails Ill just use styrofoam, witch I thought I'd shape and then apply a sort of putty, then paint it and at the final step apply some varnish. What I'm wondering about when it comes to all these chemical stuff, is if they could be safe for snails? The stuff im gonna get is same things that people use to make backgrounds for their fishtanks... So if its safe for fishies, would it be ok to assume its safe for snails too?

You need some kind of varnish everyside of styrox is really porous material and will suck moisture in it and mold loves it.
I think best would be try to buy some ecological paints and varnish which don't have too much toxics in them and let them dry really well. If i make background I will try to find some ecological paint and varnish so they don't smell too long bad neither.
I think everyone has been in room that has been just painted and even when paint is dry it will stink days with old paints. I think new paints has less those evaporate substances in them so are safer to use.
