Hi, I´m just musing on the question, whether “hamillei” is nowadays regarded as a subspecies (ssp.) of Achatina fulica or as a form (f.) of Achatina fulica fulica. As far as I know (of course I might be wrong), variations (var.) are obsolete in zoological nomenclature since 1960 on the basis of the rules of ICZN. In the thread “Species list, correct spellings + ID information”, two different formulations are to be found: “Achatina fulica hamillei f. rodatzi” and “Achatina fulica var. hamillei (rodatzi)”. Does anyone know a little bit about this strange question, perhaps even a citation? Sorry, I´m kind of “obsessive” – my fault……. . Thanks: wolf
