Sand is no option for snails it scrathes tank and snails shell. I have heard that some snail died 'cos it burried to sand and sand went in from breathing hole. I think for helix raining system is pointless, they don't need as much humid than achatinas etc. more exotic snails. Sand won't soften hits if snail drops for some reason from sealing. Exoterra don't show they prices because they sell world wide products and in diffenrent coutries different things cost different. It depends on retailer how much they cost. Look up some onlinestore that are the same as your geographical position few diffenrent places and then you know how much money you have to take with you when you visit local pet store.

Yes, I agree that sand in the tank is not a good idea.
If you really wanted to you could run the rain system during the night, when it is naturally more humid and snails are more active, but during the day it is not necessary.
If you want to make a little lake, take a well-washed jar lid and countersink that into the substrate. Be sure it isn't too deep that a snail would drown in it, though. If you can't find anything shallow enough, put some marbles in it to take up some of the space. That way if a snail crawls in it it won't drown because it'll have the marbles to crawl on.
