I can't decide if this is cruel and distressing to my snails. I'm in desperate need of an escape. Only for a week but I'm just jumping on a train with my friend and traveling to our flats in wales for a really dead weekend. Were just going to Cook and watching freeview for an entire week No parties no nothing, which is what we need. I'm getting the train there. It takes four and a half hours. I would miss my snails, and i would rather i had them with me to check how they are as baby's shell isn't in the best shape. The other two are Perfectly happy and growing extremely quickly. I don't really like the idea of disturbing them but i wonder if they would be perfectly fine on the seat next to me on a train. I'll bring along the heat mat and such so whilst in wales it wouldn't be different to usual. Thanks

I think it would be ok but if you do have any decorations that could harm asnails shell remove them and put them in a bag so they dont fall on a snail. Im not sure if snails can get travle sick but aslong as its not bumpy i think it is ok.

I think that it would go well to take your snails with you. But how cold is it where you live? If it is quite chilly for the snails, I would keep them in a smaller container while traveling, that way you can easier can keep them warm. Maybe even put in some moss if possible for some moist?

Where i live is fairly cold at the moment. Their box has thick soil, about half has moss varying in depth they have fake plants and pots to hide under a water and a food dish.
I was wondering about the train vibrations. The journey shouldn't be too bumpy.
Maybe i will insulate them in with something stuck to the sides before i leave

Ive been traveling with train a few times in my life, but its actually a quite comfortable ride, its not bumpy at all, its far more comfortable than going with bus, or with some car drivers lol. If you keep the snails in their main tank while traveling, just follow snailgirls advice to remove anything that can move around and harm the snails

How big is the container? If it is possible to do so, keep it on your lap during the train ride to minimize the vibrations. (That would also help keep it a bit warmer too.)

Here in Finland you have to go to animal section if you don't hide your terrarium animal as some bag with you. They think here that everything that lives makes you allergic, but you should use on train towels, 'cos someone can be allergic to peat and if person don't have medicine always with them.. And sometimes it's better to hide the container in bag so you avoid some panicing people and rude comments. Here people if they don't understand if someone likes something what someone don't consider as pet they will at really childish and well you can't always choose where to sit so it wouldn't be really nice to have argument all the what till your stop. :/

I've taken dogs, rabbits, rats, hamsters, lizardas and stick insects on public transport. Not oncd has anyone been rude to me. Sometimes people have been curious, but never rude.

If you're concerned about causing a fuss, maybe you could wrap the tank in a blanket and just tell the curious it's only a budgie (who's very shy and doesn't like strangers)?

Wow I got some typos into that last post... blame my phone's mini qwerty.
Trains get really hot sometimes (although the last one I was one had the air con turned way up... when we had all that snow! Brrr...) so they should stay warm enough. But you could always buy a handful of heat packs and drop one or two into the tank (depending on tank/pack size) to help keep the heat up.

Nother good way is keep heat with pouring hot water in bottle. That way I was able keep my snails warm in back of car when it was cold weather inside and bottle was hot at home too after something like 2 and half hours later. You can also buy those strox boxes which are used as keeping food cold with icepacks, but use heat pack intead cold oness in winter. Then no one would think there's snails when it looks like you are keeping food with you are travelling.
