I guess these things happen but i fainted when i wen to see her grave with a stone on. when i dug her up a hour later it was only her empty shell! can bacteria eat some thing as big as a snails foot in one hour? i knew it was hershell because it had the hol in an had the crack and the nibble marks! I hae a snail grave yard and its under some bushes and every snail that i lose i put under there and the next day or hourtheir foot is gne and its only their shell! could it b ants?

R.I.P Buttercup If you look in the wild you won't ever find any part of a dead snail apart from it's shell because there's bugs that feed on dead things so sadly this is what would have happened. It won't just be ants, I'm not sure what bugs do eat bodies but if you did a search you'd find something.

Ants, centipedes, woodlice, terrestrial leeches, slugs and other snails all eat dead snails. Bacteria alone would not cause the body to disappear that fast.

Inside of shell is ideal conditions for small compost so snail body can break down by the nature really fast. If compost works like a dream it don't smell much either. :/ Birds eat snails too, they don't eat shells and sometimes body dries out so you can't notice remains end of the shell.

I am so sorry for your loss, they really attach themselves to your heart and it is very painful when they go. He had a great time with you and right now, he is sliding along to Rainbow Bridge.

Awwwwwww.......... I know how you feel, snailgirl23. I lost two snails due to damaged shells and I still mourn for them. I am so sorry....... but, as u know, buttercup might as well be in a happy place, knowing that you love him/her. Rest in peace, buttercup.
