Hi, Yesterday, I thought one of my GALS might be laying eggs, but I'm not so sure now. The reason for this is that during yesterday, my snail buried itself tail down with about 2 inches of shell in the substrate. I would have checked the area yesterday, but she (I know they are hermaphrodites) didn't move from the spot until we were making our way to bed. This morning, both snails were away from the area, but I had to go out. When I got back home, I noticed that she had buried herself back into the substrate at the exact same spot. Would this be normal egg laying behavour (ie laying eggs over a 2 day period) or does everyone think she has just found a favourite spot to dig herself into. Any advice will be very appreciated. Many thanks Ian

How much humidity is in terrarium? My snails start to bury if it's too dry. Some snails might just like to bury to sleep for day time. Egg laying it self don't take long, but snail have to first dig hole till it finds it way to bottom or other ideal space to lay eggs. Snails sometimes dig hole head of time and wait under substrate that egg are ready to lay. After egg laying they will rest to some snail it's really exhausting process. My snails usually spend 1 to 3 days under substrate. If on snails selected spot is less substrate than other side of terrarium or they are planning to lay egg in in really small space when whole snail with it shell can't really fit in they may only look like they are sleeping halve buried. Really they only need to stick their head to soil to lay eggs. Today I found one plant pot so that there was just small chasm and size of it was smaller than snails thickest part of shell. I just literally pour eggs out from pot and filled that hole with peat. A.Fulicas lay eggs about once month so not really often. Practice eggs snail maybe lay on soil/peat and not really many often snails eat their eggs after laying. Like one of my baby snails lay eggs on food dish and other snail ate them on breakfast.

Hiya Crossless, Thanks for your reply. The humidity is at 75 and the substrate is about 4" deep all the way round, including the part where she has dug. Hopefully it is her getting ready then as both snails are about 4 years old (according to the person we got them from). Therefore, we want to hatch a couple of snails to keep things going for our son. Especially seeing as there is room in the tank for 4 snails. Ian
