I have been in contact with several people across europe about the possibility of importing snails...One person, from Italy, has sent me this pic of some different species Could someone please identify these snails, I think one is Helix Aspersa, which is native to the UK, anyone know whether the others (if they are a different species) are native to the UK?...As he can find many more like these Thanks!

I seen Helix aspersa and Helix pomatia grow nearly twice as big as the ones here in italy. all the snails on that picture apart from the little ones are collected for eating in italy check out this page: www.rirdc.gov.au/reports/NAP/03-137.pdf#search='Italian%20snail%20species' can you get Helix Vermiculata in that colour?

I think the large snail is Helix lucorum. Look at the following pictures.... and then look at my enhanced version of the pic, where I have altered the brightness etc... Also, they grow to 45mm, about the size of pomatia so that would explain it being bigger than the Cornu apsersum. They are native to Turkey. I think the angle of the pic makes it look flatter than it is. Eobania vermiculata are only about 22mm in size.

Hopefully I can work something out to get a few of these Helix lucorum...4.5cm is quite impressive for a european species

Also I think the bottom right one could be an Eobania vermiculata. They can be very similar to Cornu aspersum. I'm casting doubt on it being an aspersum coz it seems to me that he would have photographed as many different species as possible in one go. Here is an enhanced version of that snail: it may help...

That does help...I had suspected it was a different species to the rest...I have some Eobania vermiculata arriving soon, so I wont ask him to collect more of those...I've inquired further about the lucorum, and hopefully he will get back to me with good news soon

I might be wrong here but i'm sure that snails on the bottom right is what Arno refers to as a 'Banded Snail'. Its soo like the aspersa with a different shell pattern. My son Tommy has one in his aspersa tank.
Arnos back on Saturday, we can ask him....when he gets over the jet lag rofl.

I think the other is Helix lucorum, it would explain the large size of it, they are found in Italy also...I should hopefully have more images once the collector in Italy has found more of them, I will then post it here
