Been looking around on Ebay to get a bigger tank for my three snails as they are starting to out grow their existing tank. I'm not one for spending out on new when second had will do, anyway as I was on my way home from picking my wife up from work, I spied a glass fish tank next to some bin bags put out for the rubbish men in the morning. so pulled up and got out to find a 2 foot 6 *15" *12" tank with a cracked bottom. So carefully put it in the back of the car and took it home. The crack was repaired with silicone and a sheet of MDF fixed to the bottom and a lid was made with some 1" pine and a old fly screen. Total cost £3 not bad me thinks and the snails will soon have a new larger home (waiting for silicone to cure first) :-) So has anyone else had any good luck of late ?

Wow, nice find. Recycling too!
I've not really had any luck like that recently... Unless you count my freakish one eyed baby snails XD

My good stroke of was so that I needed more space for my snails.. I had like 8snails in one tank I needed more space well.. I just had little check online what nearby recycling center usually sells. Well they don't update their page too often so.. I found nice 80cmx40cmx40cm fish tank on web page cost was like 25euros without lid. Well we went to recycle center after I came from eye doctor. None did by the fishtank so we bought it. It's was really good find because if it would be new fish tank it would cost.. ehmm.. *well I go to see current price from manufactures web page* Zomg.. as new it would cost to me about 85.69euros.

Well done on the find and of course any money saved is a bonus. I guess a lot of fish tanks get thrown out with one side cracked or chipped and as we don't need them water tight they're perfect for our needs :-) My good stroke of was so that I needed more space for my snails.. i can beat that, i was walking along and in someones front garden was a fish tank with a stand. they were just heading out, so i asked if i caould have it, they said it dont hold water, fine for me, took it home, its 4 ft wide, 1ft deep and 1ft high,
Then, my neighbour is throwing out her old tank, again 'can i have it?' took it inside, it fits perfectly underneath the other tank inside the stand!
il post a pic once its all set up. just waiting for lids to turn up (got lids for both for £10!
I do love a good bargain!

Brilliant. Two tanks with just the right dimensions. That's really good. I was looking for a place to put a vivarium on last year, and wanted a set of drawers or something simliar, four foot long to place it on. I started looking in the local ads etc. Then the neighbour across the road put his in the drive-way ready for the tip. Perfect dimensions. Sometimes we get lucky eh? It's a great feeling when these things happen FreeCycle is a great way of picking up second-hand things for free and for finding homes for your own old things. Not only have we been forunate to find a place for people's unwanted things, we've made some people's day by giving them what they've been looking for too. I'm second-hand fan
